 BCCI has announced that 1097 players have registered for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 202 auction. A large number of untrained Indian players, cricket players from the USA, UAE, etc. We look at some interesting facts in the list of players for the IPL 2021 auction.




New face

Arjun Tendulkar will be a huge attraction among a host of untrained players at auction. The left-hander made his top team first appear in Mumbai in the Sed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He has taken two wickets in most matches in this tournament. Australian hitting sensation Marnus Labuschagne is also likely to generate a lot of interest among the franchises. After a good series against India at home, the 23-year-old scored 176 runs and took ten wickets in six Brisbane Heats matches in the 2020-21 Big Bash League.

Missing names

The expulsion of Mitchell Starc from the IPL is expected to continue as, according to reports, the Aussie pacer has not registered his name at auction. He last played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2015. England Test captain Joe Root, too, may have skipped another IPL program. A busy summer home schedule may have forced the 30-year-old to make himself available. James Pattinson and Tom Banton, who represented the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 13, and James Pattinson, who picked up 11 wickets last season are reportedly out.


2 crore club

Eleven players are available for a basic price of  2 crores, according to ESPN Cricinfo. Two Indian players - Harbhajan Singh and Kedar Jadhav, and nine overseas players - Glenn Maxwell, Shakib Al Hasan, Steve Smith, Jason Roy, Moeen Ali, Colin Ingram, Mark Wood, Sam Billings, and Liam Plunkett - are listed as top-rated. 2 crores. Wood and Plunkett have played only in one IPL season.


'Long-term' players

Newly released players Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Finch, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas, Alex Carey, etc., have signed up for the auction. Also, a total of 99 players from South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan combined will be available for selection.
